Good Morning. Good Night. 2020, 30”x40”, Acrylic On Canvas
I started this window painting during the pandemic while in self-isolation at home. It was inspired by the mass-produced 'window view' poster my mom used to put on my wall. The blue, framed in the high-positioned window, welcomed my vision while simultaneously excluding my touch. As a connection and slice of the inside and outside, this window was enticing yet prohibitive. People often find vulnerability in solitude, yet loneliness serves as a motivation to observe, to meditate and to self-explore.
The Click, 2021, 48”x24”, Acrylic On Canvas
By enlarging and representing the icon that prevails upon commercial systems, this work examines the notion of contemporary retail therapy and bottom-press (click) psychology that exists in daily consumer behaviors, especially within the context of pandemic adaptation and the ongoing diminishment of physical stores.
2018-2021
This series was initially inspired by retro wallpaper patterns as a paradoxical response to biophilia (human’s desire to be near nature) through using the artificial to heal longings for the real.
The green plant here symbolizes nature, vitality and endurance. The pot-like imagery representing human impact looks awkward and discordant regarding to its connection with the plant. As a metaphor of technological supremacy, the sci-fi-like background is processed as color blocks without any sign of life, even without shadows of the plant.
In the form of a eulogy to all the house plants we’ve killed, each plant portrait here is a reflection on the ambivalent relationship among human, nature and technology.

2017-2021
This is a series of fictional characters and their interactions with endless possibilities. The reduction of figurative details to abstract shapes represents a filtered interpretation, such as people’s uncertainty about themselves and their simplistic judgments towards others, especially under the impact of media and commercial systems that are Western superiority based.
Those well-dressed figures symbolize our excessive concern about how people would understand us through the way we present ourselves, including over-retouched photos on social media or social-manner-anxiety about how to wear, how to talk or how to behave.

2017-2018
“Vulnerability and Endurance” was inspired by our mundanely peaceful tolerance against loneliness and insecurity. It is a monochrome narrative and also an exploration of the unheroic side of our contemporary lifestyle through trivial objects and ordinary characters.
Simple line-drawing applied here represents tenderness, vulnerability, endurance, as well as connection and slice of relationships. By erasing the identifying details, viewers are invited to complete the scenario by using their very own experiences. In such a way, personal and spontaneous conversations will be created between each piece and the audience.
